Delighted to have had the opportunity to work on a Career Support programme with a talented group of 4th-year PhD students in Data Science from UL, UCD, and Maynooth University over the past few weeks. SFI Centre for Research Training in Foundations of Data Science funded by Science Foundation Ireland and Skillnet Ireland, aims to address the growing demand for data science expertise by equipping graduates with the skills and knowledge to excel in this field. The programme includes practical industry experience and collaborative research opportunities in various aspects of data science, such as data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

Having had the chance to get to know this group, I’ve been incredibly impressed by how well-rounded they are. In addition to their cutting-edge data science knowledge, they possess excellent critical analysis, communication, collaboration and relationship-building skills as well as a huge amount of resilience developed during their individual PhD journeys. In my view, they are “employer ready.” As they approach the job market in the coming months, I am confident they will be highly sought after and will make valuable contributions to the organizations they join.

Our 4th year hashtag#PhD students have been busy the last few weeks as they near the end of their PhD journey with the CRT.

We were delighted to have Lorraine Shine from Career and Interview Success deliver two excellent workshops on CV and interview preparation at the University of Limerick. Well done to all our 4th years who are preparing to exit the programme and will soon be coming out on the market looking for industry and academic positions.

Thanks to Patsy Finn for organising the two days!
