I really enjoyed facilitating this workshop at Trinity Business School for the Research Ireland Centre for Research Training in Digitally-Enhanced Reality (d-real) PhD researchers – such an engaged and thoughtful group. Huge thanks to Kate Molloy for the invitation and for all the work behind the scenes.
The day was full of thoughtful discussion on navigating careers both within and beyond academia, strengthening CVs and LinkedIn profiles and building confidence for interviews.
It was a privilege to hear about the breadth of research underway, from ethical AI and privacy in extended reality to digital health, HCI and computer vision. These researchers have very bright futures ahead!

Last Thursday Research Ireland Centre for Research Training in Digitally-Enhanced Reality (d-real) hosted a Career Success Workshop facilitated by Lorraine Shine in Trinity College Dublin!

This workshop focused on providing practical, job-market-ready tools, tailored specifically for PhD researchers. It covered career options, CV and interview preparation for both industry and academia.

Thank you to all the researchers for their enthusiastic participation and to Lorraine for creating an engaging and thoroughly successful event! 🎉

Previous post We had our third session of the Research Ireland ADVANCE CRT PhD: Career Readiness Series this week, focusing on CV and Cover Letter Success. We explored both industry and academic applications and delved into areas that can often be challenging for researchers – such as deciding what level of role to apply for and the use of AI in application documents. Next post Interviews are a crucial part of the recruitment process – for both candidates and employers. It was a pleasure to work with ADVANCE CRT PhD researchers on practical strategies to approach interviews with clarity, confidence and self‑awareness. Thank you to the ADVANCE CRT team for inviting me to be part of the Beyond the PhD: Career Readiness Series.
